Description: In this two-hour Chinese brush painting workshop, participants will learn traditional Chinese brush stroke techniques. Enjoy creating simple, small paintings, such as bamboo, chickadees, and hibiscus flowers, while mastering a variety of brush strokes. All materials will be provided. Participants can bring their own Chinese calligraphy brushes or borrow them from the instructor.
Meet your instructor:
Fanny Ip expresses her creativity through Chinese Watercolor and mixed media on rice paper. As an artist, she has always been inspired by nature, and depicts the colors, rhythms and atmospheres of her own experiences of flora, birds and landscape. Fanny’s paintings were exhibited and showcased at Asia Invitation Art Exhibition, Chinese Canadian Artists Federation, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Club, Burnaby Art Gallery and more.
Eileen Fong was born in China, raised in Hong Kong and then immigrated to Canada in 1968. She began studying Chinese brush painting in 1994, learning from several master painters throughout the years. Her love of nature coincides with the beautiful expressions of nature revealed in this art form. The artist's work can be described as "Cultural Serenity with a Contemporary Touch". This style merges traditional Chinese brush painting techniques with a modern sensibility, capturing the grace and beauty of nature through meticulous brushwork and fluid watercolor washes.
Age limit: Participants must be 5+ years old. Children under 12 must be accompanied by one parent or guardian, only one ticket required.

Cost: $50 (plus tax and applicable fees)
Important Notes: It's advisable to avoid wearing your favourite clothes, or bring an apron, as paint can be challenging to wash off.
Cancellation Policies: UBC Botanical Garden's Lunar New Year Market is a not-for-profit event. We do not have the capacity to change tickets for a different day or refund tickets. If the market is cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, ticket holders will receive a gift card for the value of their tickets that can be redeemed for UBC Botanical Garden and Nitobe Memorial Garden admission and in The Shop in the Garden
