Join Douglas Justice (Associate Director, Horticulture and Collections) for a special tour of the ornamental cherry trees planted throughout the Garden.

As many people know, April is the month when the Vancouver region celebrates the Cherry Blossom Festival. Ornamental cherry trees, like other spring-flowering trees, are often seen as emblems of natural beauty and rebirth. UBC Botanical Garden is home to large collection of ornamental cherries. From the Sato Zakura (village cherries) of historical Japan to selections of wild species and modern hybrids, the Botanical Garden is a showcase for cherry trees and their beautiful blossoms.

Guide: Along with duties as the Associate Director, Horticulture and Collections at UBC Botanical Garden, Douglas Justice also teaches in both the Masters of Landscape Architecture programs at UBC and the Botanical Garden's Horticulture Training Program. He is an active member of a number of local, national and international plant and garden organizations, including MSI (Magnolia Society International). Douglas headed the team that created the Vancouver Trees mobile app, and worked with volunteers in the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival to produce the handbook, Ornamental Cherries in Vancouver.
